Lockhart Matter Dermatology & Aesthetic Center has been known as the area’s finest medical and cosmetic dermatology practice for more than 20 years, with a combined experience of more than 40 years. In 2004, Dr. Susanne Lockhart and Dr. Christie Matter joined forces to offer patients the best dermatological care available. In 2021, they opened their modern and beautiful Prosper facility at 1030 South Coit Road.

“We understand that aesthetic and medical dermatology needs vary greatly between patients,” said Dr. Lockhart, “which is why we spend the time and tailor each patient’s treatment to best address their skin concerns or conditions. Our personalized approach, combined with the latest technology in a state-of-the-art facility, is why thousands of patients have put their trust in our hands for their aesthetic and medical dermatology needs.”

The Lockhart Matter difference begins with the staff, many of whom have been with the doctors anywhere from 10-20 years. The newest addition is Dr. Kyle Owens, who joined their ranks in 2022. Like Drs. Matter and Lockhart, Dr. Owens is a board certified dermatologist and member of Alpha Omega Alpha, an esteemed medical honor society reserved for the top 10% of graduating physicians. Together these three doctors diagnose and treat routine skin conditions ranging from acne, eczema, and rosacea to warts, moles, skin lesions, and rashes.

“Our doctors have been received ‘Top Docs’ recognition by both our peers and our patients repeatedly since 2004,” said Michelle Stephens, practice administrator with 17 years at Lockhart Matter Dermatology, “and frankly, there is no bigger compliment than that. Their trust in our care says it all.”

Alongside the physicians is Jamee LaPoint, a licensed aesthetician and senior certified laser technician, who has been with Lockhart Matter Dermatology & Aesthetics for four years. Her passion is helping clients achieve beautiful healthy skin. Aesthetic services include injectables and fillers, lasers, HydraFacials, Vivace, Tixel, Plasma Pen, and more.

Beyond the personalities, exceptional care and communication underscore the Lockhart Matter experience.

“We treat patients like we would treat our family members,” said Dr. Matter. “We realize that doctor visits can be anxiety-provoking, especially when there is a procedure involved. Since dermatologists frequently perform procedures, we have developed ways to alleviate anxiety and make the visit as comfortable as possible.”

Establishing trust and creating a comfortable environment are standard at Lockhart Matter. By listening to patient concerns and addressing any questions they may have about their procedure, the doctors can provide tailored information to alleviate any doubts or fears. During any procedure, open communication is key. The doctors explain each step along the way with the goal of ensuring that patients feel supported and well-informed throughout their dermatological experience.

“Because we are a physician-owned, private practice,” said Dr. Owens, “we do not belong to a private equity company and are therefore able to move faster and more dynamically with our decision-making for our patients. And because our patients are like family, whenever they call, they know their concerns are taken seriously.”

Educating people about their skin and how to care for it is a cornerstone of this practice. While individual skin needs vary and what suits one patient may not be optimal for another, the team at Lockhart Matter recognizes this diversity.

“We provide complimentary consultations tailored to understand and address each patient’s unique skin requirements,” said La Point. “We all operate under the same standard of care and truly want what’s best for the patient.”

One thing that’s emphasized as a Best Practice for all patients is the use of sunscreen for all ages and skin types.

“Helping patients understand the importance of sunscreen involves conveying several key points, including skin protection, daily use, broad spectrum, SPF, application, skin cancer prevention, healthy aging, and demonstration. By effectively communicating these points, our patients can better appreciate the importance of incorporating sunscreen into their daily skincare routine for long term health and protection.”

Patients can also get a dose of reality with the Visia Skin Analyzer, which allows them to see damage that is not visible to the naked eye. Daily use of sunscreen and annual skin checks starting in teenage years is recommended because of the effects of the Texas sun. For those with a personal or family history of skin cancer, checks are recommended twice a year.

When you want the added benefit of aesthetics to your regular dermatological screenings, the options abound. Aesthetic services include injectables and fillers, lasers (BBL and Halo Skin Resurfacing), HydraFacials, Vivace, Tixel, Plasma Pen, and more.

“Having your aesthetic injectables performed by a board certified dermatologist is of utmost importance,” said Dr. Owens, “because of the fundamental training a dermatologist receives in physiology, anatomy, pharmacology, and the specialized training they get regarding skin and surface anatomy, which includes facial muscles, arteries, veins, and nerves. When a patient receives treatment by a provider with intimate knowledge of facial anatomy, there is risk of adverse events that might possibly lead to serious permanent damage.”

Patients at Lockhart Matter Dermatology & Aesthetics also have access to the best skincare products on the market, including ZO, SkinBetter, Elta MD, and La Roche Posay.

Lockhart Matter is always happy to accept new patients. They treat patients of all ages from pediatrics to geriatrics, with an authentic concern for the new faces along with the families who’ve been with them for years. Because they are an independent office, patients receive sincere and personal attention delivered by a loyal staff who acknowledge each patient as an individual, not just a body — a distinguishing detail in an industry that sometimes gets too busy and too corporate.
