Dr. Eric Beshires and Dr. Ferran Ros wouldn’t be surprised if Frisco residents who haven’t visited their local emergency room in a while have preconceived notions of what a typical day might look like in the ER. In fact, they likely imagine scenes that mirror episodes of their favorite television dramas — complete with chaotically high patient volume, packed waiting rooms, constant sirens, endless life-and-death decisions, and determined medical staff rushing from room to room to provide prompt care to those who need it.

Granted, scenes like these aren’t uncommon for emergency rooms across the nation from time to time. And no one wants to think about the possibility of themselves or a family member being rushed to the closest ER due to an accident, injury, or illness. But at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center — Centennial (BSW Centennial), the goal is always to provide good care done quickly and with consistent quality.

“As an ER physician, you have to be on your game — for every patient, in every situation, and with every encounter,” Dr. Ros said. He is the medical director of Emergency Medicine at BSW Centennial. “But I’d say it’s more of a coordinated dance at our facility than chaos. Everyone knows where to be. As a result, the typical wait time is roughly 10 minutes. People know they can rely on us, and it’s great to know that.”

Dr. Beshires is the chief medical officer at BSW Centennial and agrees whole-heartedly that everyone is committed to positive outcomes.

“We see an average of 70 patients per day in the emergency room. Sometimes, that number can be closer to 100. But with how our department is set up, we can accommodate pretty much anything that walks through the door,” Dr. Beshires said. “On any given day, the hospital may have 10-15 physicians across various specialties on call for the ER, not including the rest of our staff. We feel very fortunate to be part of a healthcare system that understands the needs around staffing and what it takes to support those needs.”

He added, “The care here is well-coordinated. Our patients should expect courtesy, respect, and quality care at every point.”

Meet the Team Leaders

Dr. Beshires is approaching 30 years of faithful service with Baylor Scott & White Health. He has been the chief medical officer at BSW Centennial for five years and is currently the interim chief operating officer. Dr. Beshires earned his Doctor of Medicine from the prestigious Texas A&M University School of Medicine in 1995 before pursuing his Master of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2018. As the chief medical officer, Dr. Beshires oversees all hospital operations.

This includes an emergency room department that has already earned itself a Level III trauma center designation for its ability to provide injured patients with rapid assessments, resuscitation, surgery, intensive care, and stabilization.

Dr. Ros has been a compassionate, skilled, and highly regarded emergency room physician for 10 years, and became the medical director of Emergency Medicine for BSW Centennial in April 2023. He is certified in advanced trauma life support, cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support, and basic life support. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine in 2011 from the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth.

Dr. Ros then completed his emergency medicine residency at John Peter Smith Hospital in 2014. He provides leadership to an emergency room department that provides care for a wide range of medical emergencies — from stitches and broken bones to seizures, strokes, heart conditions, concussions, fractures, wounds, pediatric concerns, and more.

Quality Care

Every scenario and outcome in an emergency room or standard hospital setting is different, but Dr. Beshires and Dr. Ros said they and the entire ER staff understand that time is critical in any emergency. The emergency department is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for patients in the Frisco area and neighboring communities. Day or night, you never have to drive far for the quality emergency care you expect and deserve. They have 12 private beds for patients with less acute conditions and nine dedicated treatment rooms for more severe conditions. This includes a dedicated trauma room.

More importantly, their entire staff is deeply committed to the communities they serve.

Dr. Ros says, “Many of the physicians on our medical staff have preceding roots, as they graduated from high school in the area and returned to the community to practice medicine. As a system, we have 51 hospitals, meaning we are local everywhere. And each facility collaborates with each other and works hard to be invested in community outreach programs, etc.”

Dr. Beshires agreed, adding, “This was the first hospital built in Frisco, so for many people, we are their community hospital. And we are growing year over year, which means people see us as their preferred hospital and emergency room and keep coming back.” Baylor Scott & White — Centennial is everyone’s preferred emergency room for a reason, and its team is backed by the breadth, depth, and sophistication of Baylor Scott & White Health, Texas’ largest not-for-profit healthcare system.
