Keerstyn Houston-Davis knows a thing or two about hard work, real estate, and philanthropy – three things she’s been exposed to and involved with her whole life.
As a young girl, when her friends were hanging out at the mall or meeting up for after-school fun, many times she had already put in a full day’s work above and beyond her school work, handling a variety of tasks at one or more of her mom’s rental properties or at her family’s skating rink.
Learning from the Best
While Keerstyn didn’t have a set job or position within the family businesses, she tended to whatever tasks needed tending and, in the process, learned the importance and impact of a good work ethic, a trait which she has passed onto her own children.
As her mother, Karen Houston-Holloway, acquired rental properties and managed three different businesses, Keerstyn worked alongside her observing, learning, and gaining unmatched on-the-job training. And importantly, she was also establishing habits and practices that would propel her towards success in her own future endeavors.
Keerstyn learned that success starts early — literally. She routinely begins her day without an alarm at 4:30 AM. A mother of four, she’s now passing on the valuable lessons of her childhood to her children: 13-year-old Tristan, 9-year-old Payton, 7-year-old Tommy John, and 3-year-old Stacey.
“They begin and end their days feeding and watering the animals on our ranch,” she said, “which include cows, chickens, sheep, goats, and dogs. Our kids very rarely have a screen in front of their faces because they’re busy outside living that Royse City ranch life. They get to be kids, but they’re also learning about hard work and responsibility. There’s always something for them to do.”
A Realtor is Born
As if raising kids and animals wasn’t keeping her busy enough, three years ago, Keerstyn decided to throw her hat into the real estate arena. Her love and knowledge of Hunt County immediately distinguished her, and she quickly discovered that she loves the business of real estate as much as the place she calls home. Her first year alone, she was named Rookie of the Year and won awards for listing over $1 million and being a multimillion-dollar producer. Now, she’s finding success in many areas of the business, including residential, commercial, ranch, rental, investment properties, land, and luxury homes.
“I truly enjoy how working in real estate allows me to be outside of an office and meet so many different and interesting people,” she said. “I’m genuinely motivated by getting to know people, understanding their needs, and then finding the perfect property for them.”
Whatever her clients need — whether it’s a young family just starting out, someone relocating to the area, an older couple ready to downsize, someone looking for investment properties, or a family that’s ready to leave the city and embrace the ranch life — Keerstyn has the right listings, is abreast of current laws, deeply understands the area, and knows all the right people.
For buyers in search of an investment property, she can many times locate off-market properties. Having spent years networking within the industry, she’s met a lot of people who know to call her when they have a property to sell.
Blessed by Mentors
Quick to acknowledge those who have helped shape her success, Keerstyn’s mentors include her
broker, Kathy Hobbs.
“Kathy is amazing, so smart and so supportive,” she said. “And (fellow Realtor) Andria Williams still helps me any time I have a question. It’s thanks to these two and our amazing team that I’ve had the success I’ve had. We truly are a family.”
Paying it Forward
Another lesson Keerstyn learned from her mom and that she is teaching to her kids is the importance of giving back.
“I was taught to go out of my way to do at least one act of random kindness each day, to make someone smile, or help someone in need, never expecting anything in return,” she said, “and I encourage my children to do the same.”
One way they do this is through White Star Wishes Foundation, a nonprofit Keerstyn co-founded with her mother and her brother, local entrepreneur and aerospace production control analyst, Houston Wengert. Through the organization, the three grant wishes to those in need such as gifting children and their families with trips to Six Flags, family fishing trips, the purchase of new school computers, and carefree time spent on Karen’s sprawling Quinlan ranch where they can explore and reconnect with nature away from the distractions of the city.
“We started White Star Wishes to spread the word to people in need that if there’s something we can do to help empower them or their children, we want to help,” Keerstyn said. “If we can touch just one person’s life, we feel that we’ve made a difference in our community.”
When she’s not helping her clients find their dream property, Keerstyn enjoys time on the family ranch with her four kids and her husband Tommy, a Quinlan native and Army veteran who is an engineer for the local NBC affiliate.
