Todd and Tara Romberger have been blessed to be a part of many a happy-ever-after. As second-generation jewelers, they love nothing more than spending time with a young couple who have found “the one” and are ready to celebrate with a custom engagement ring. Or it may be new parents looking for a custom piece to commemorate the birth of their child or a married couple celebrating a milestone anniversary. The Rombergers spend their days helping to make these and other special moments even more special. Each time they do, they’re continuing a family tradition that dates back more than 33 years.

It all began in 1991, when Todd’s parents, James and Linda (Ja+Lin=Jalin) took a giant leap of faith and opened the doors to their fine jewelry store in Plano. It didn’t take long before Jalin Jewelers was the go-to spot for all things jewelry related. Any gift in a Jalin Jewelers box brought smiles even before it was opened.

As James and Linda built lasting relationships with their customers, their two sons, Todd and Jason, did too. And when the elder Rombergers were ready to retire, Todd and his wife, Tara, were ready to step into their shoes and carry on the family legacy. Over the years, the business has evolved, and Jalin Jewelers today is known as much for its custom pieces as for the designer jewelry lines they carry.

Todd and Tara Romberger want to thank their loyal customers for, again this year, selecting Jalin Jewelers as Best Jewelry Store in Living Magazine’s Readers’ Choice Best Of showcase.

“Often a customer will inherit a ring or necklace,” Tara said. “They love the sentiment behind the piece, but it’s in an outdated style they’re just not going to wear.” No problem. Todd can sit down with them, listen to their vision for the piece, and make it come to life. The result is a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry that is uniquely theirs but also has a sentimental connection to their loved one. One beautiful example of this is when a longtime customer brought in her deceased husband’s wedding ring and Todd made it into a cross that she wears in remembrance of him.

Our Kiddos

Jalin Jewelers is still very much a family affair. Loyal customers know Todd and Tara’s kids, Taylor (and her husband David), Austin (and his wife Sammie), and the baby of the family, Madison (a UNT music major). As an added attraction, everybody looks forward to a visit with the store mascot, Murphy the Catahoula. Long-time employees, Donna and Pablo, round out the team. Both have been with Todd for over 13 years.

Even as they enjoy carrying on the family tradition, Tara and Todd are also ready to take Jalin Jewelers into the 21st century, something they’ll be doing in the fall with their new online store. In just a few months, customers will be able to log onto JalinJewelers.com to find the jewelry lines they’ve come to love and even collaborate on custom pieces. “We have a lot of customers who have moved out of the area but still come back to do business with us,” Tara said. “This will make it easier for them and will be convenient for all our customers.”

But don’t worry. You can still receive the know-you-by-name service and friendly smiles that have endeared the Jalin Jewelry family to the community for over 33 years. Todd and Tara aren’t going anywhere. They will still be on the job at 4021 Preston Road in Plano and still look forward to serving their customers for years to come.

When Todd and Tara do tear themselves away from the store, they love to travel and are big national park fans. In fact, they have visited 27 national parks and have plenty more on their bucket list. They are avid supporters of Hope for Haiti’s Children, a charity with the mission statement “to demonstrate Christian compassion to poverty-bound Haitian children and their families, providing opportunities for these children to become leaders in their homes, churches, and communities.”  Todd and Tara rely heavily on their faith and attend the church of Christ on McDermott Road. Tara is a 1997 Prosper High School graduate. (Let’s go, Eagles!)
