What does the saying “health is wealth” mean to you? More of us include our mental health as part of our overall health, and this positive step forward is due in part to people like Maria Guerrero, LPC, the founder-therapist and hands-on owner of Cypress Counseling & Behavioral Center. The center’s team works tirelessly to bring quality, accessible counseling and therapy services to the community and to erase the stigma associated with mental health issues.

“Especially after going through the pandemic, we understand how essential mental health is to a fulfilling life. Our battle to destigmatize and promote the normalization of seeking mental health care is paying off, and we see a growing number of people feeling empowered to get the help they need,” Maria explains.

Not surprisingly, Cypress Counseling & Behavioral Center’s dedication to its goal hasn’t gone unnoticed. The practice has been voted best practice for therapy in Cy-Fair for five consecutive years and has also been voted by Living readers as Best Psychologist in 2023.

Cypress Counseling & Behavioral Center

Quality Over Quantity

Many aspects of Cypress Counseling & Behavioral Center make it an award-winning stand-out. In addition to a comprehensive array of services that include in-person and telemedicine therapy, is a commitment to providing convenient, respectful, personalized service.

To help meet the high demand for its services, the practice has expanded to 20 employees, including 16 clinicians and two care coordinators who help with billing, and has opened a second location in Houston. Andres Cardona, the center’s co-founder and Maria’s husband, has been instrumental in growing and managing the business, enabling Maria to focus on the team and services offered.

“Our goal is to best serve the needs of the community. We’re growing very carefully so we don’t lose the level of individualized service we’re known for. We want to remain a boutique-style practice that offers a personalized experience and know-you-by-name service,” Maria says.

You’ll notice the difference when you call for information and to schedule an appointment. Instead of automatically rolling to voicemail, your call is answered during business hours by an employee. If they’re busy and you leave a message, they strive to return your call in a timely manner.

“We tailor our services to meet our clients’ individual needs. When you call us, we evaluate your unique needs and then match you with a therapist who can best address them. You’re not just randomly assigned to a therapist.”

Well-rounded Services

Cypress Counseling & Behavioral Center offers in-person and convenient teletherapy for adults, teens, adolescents, children, couples, and families for a wide range of issues in a comfortable, welcoming environment. Understanding that expressing and translating the nuances of your emotions, life experiences, and feelings in a language other than your native tongue can be challenging, several Spanish-speaking bilingual therapists are on staff.

The practice also provides immigration evaluations for asylum, hardship waivers, U-Visa, VAWA, and cancellation of removal. “We will work collaboratively with your immigration attorney to strengthen your immigration case,” Maria says.
